The 2021 Beta Phi Mu scholarship season is now CLOSED. The Beta Phi Mu Scholarship Review Committee meets during May and recipients are announced at the Beta Phi Mu Business Meeting and Member Reception held in conjunction with the ALA Annual Meeting in June. The 2022 scholarship application season will open November 15, 2021 and run through March 15, 2022.

Description
The Harold Lancour Foreign Research Fellowship is awarded to a professional librarian in order to support a robust LIS-related research project to be conducted in a country outside of Canada/USA. Applications will be judged based on: a) Clarity and completeness of the proposed plan of research; b) Confidence that the study will produce sound results; and c) Applicability to the theory and/or practice of the profession. Research results should be publicly disseminated after the project is completed.

Amount Awarded:
$1,750
The recipient of this award is expected to send a brief report of their research activities to Beta Phi Mu Headquarters within one year of their completion. Additional requirements are outlined in the Scholarship Agreement.

Description
The Harold Lancour Foreign Research Fellowship is awarded to a professional librarian in order to support a robust LIS-related research project to be conducted in a country outside of Canada/USA. Eligibilty:
- Applicants must be degreed professionals working in a library, archives, or other approved information setting. LIS faculty are not eligible, nor are students currently enrolled in LIS doctoral or master's degree programs.
- Applicants must hold an MLIS or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited master's degree program, or from another program approved for Beta Phi Mu membership (see https://www.betaphimu.org/membership.html).
- Applicants are not required to be members of Beta Phi Mu, but non-members are encouraged to apply for professional membership if eligible (see https://www.betaphimu.org/membership.html).
- Current Vita.
- One to two page description of the planned research study, including how the information gained is intended to be used (publications, presentations, project development, etc.). Include brief descriptions of any previous research projects and any previous experience in foreign travel or study, including any languages you can read, write, or speak.
