Hello Beta Phi Mu Members,
My name is Zachary Stier, Ed.D., MSLIS, and I am the 2024-2025 President for Beta Phi Mu. It is a pleasure to connect with you. A little bit about me. I’ve been a library patron since I was little and became a library page at the age of 15. I began my career in libraries as a library assistant, then became a youth services librarian after graduating from Drexel University, and I have also completed an internship at the Young Readers Center housed at the Library of Congress. For the past 13 years I’ve been the Director of Children’s Library Services at Ericson Public Library in Boone, Iowa. I consider what I do a passion. On top of my work at the public library I also teach part time at University of Illinois Urbana Champaign, where I teach courses on early literacy and public library partnerships, and I am an independent researcher at the Space Science Institute. Along with being the founder and owner of Zachary Stier Consulting, LLC, where I provide services to both librarians and early child practitioners across the country, that I started in 2014. Some of my other passions include traveling, writing, reading, and watching true crime and horror movies. I attend horror movie conventions throughout the country and my latest one was Flashback in Rosemount, Illinois.
As President, one of my goals for this year is to increase membership. With that a friendly reminder to pay your annual membership dues of $35.00, here is the link to get those paid https://www.betaphimu.org/annual-membership-fee.html. In addition, my secondary goal is to move Beta Phi Mu in a direction to resurrect scholarships that are currently not being offered due to budgetary constraints. Specifically, we are unable to offer Sarah Rebeca Reed, Blanche E. Woolls, and the Harold Lancour scholarships. We are eager to reinstate these scholarships in the future. As a member, you also have the opportunity to become a sustaining member. Sustaining members are the biggest support for our efforts to resurrect these scholarships and provide overall support for the future of Beta Phu Mu.
As your newly elected President, my goal is to make myself available to members so I have set aside every third Tuesday each month from 9-11 am CST if you would like to meet, discuss, and connect with me. Please email me at [email protected] to request a time to meet with me.
